PETRIFACTION : to make something change into a substance like stone; to become like stone.

Bioedilizia Romano’s bricks or floor tiles petrifaction is a process brought about the mix used and the firing process. The mix used for our products is composed for 40% of molten rock dust coming from the volcano Etna, and for 60% of clayey materials. The standard firing reaches 950° C, at this temperature we have the melting of clayey ligants while the structure of specks of molten rock dust remains unchanged. Beyond 950° C up to 1100 ° C we obtain the flaming in our material coloration and the petrifaction process. At that temperature the specks of molten rock start amalgamating with the clay and eventually we obtain a darker colour, more resistant and less porous material, with an improving of technical characteristics.
